Education Austin Stimulus Proposal for IDEA and Title I Funds
 
Title I Stimulus Funds
  • Full-Time Mentors for all YR1 & YR2 Teachers at Title I Schools (60)
Cost: $3.5 million
 
  • Train Full-Time Mentors with AFT ER&D Foundations Program
Cost: $135,000 (includes stipends for mentors attending training)
 
  • Additional Pre-K Teachers to Reduce Class Ratios to 15:1 (23 Teachers)
Cost: $1.15 million
 
  • Pre-K Teaching Assistants at a 1:2 TA/Classroom Ratio (150 TA’s)
Cost: $3.75 million
 
  • College Classes for Pre-K Teaching Assistants Through Capital Idea
Cost: $275,000
 
  • Tutoring Coordination Through Austin Partners in Ed Classroom Coaching
Cost: $50,000
 
  • ESL Teacher Stipends at Title I Schools: $500

 

Cost: $100,000
 
  • Secondary Math and Science Stipend at Title I Schools: $2,000
Cost: $360,000
 
  • National Board Stipend at Title I Schools : Increase from $2,000 to $4,000
Cost: $100,000
 
  • Reduce 5th Grade Class Cap at Title I Schools to 25 (25 Teachers)
Cost: $1.25 million
 
IDEA Stimulus Funds
  • Additional Special Education Teachers to meet Special Ed/Inclusion Needs (100)
Cost: $5 million
 
  • Additional Special Education Teaching Assistants to meet Sp Ed Needs (160 TA’s)
Cost: $3.2 million
 
  • Special Education Teacher Stipend: Increase from $1,000 to $1,500
Cost: $500,000
 
  • College Classes for Pre-K Teaching Assistants Through Capital Idea 

                 Cost: $575,000

  •  
  • Additional Items: Inclusion Training for TA’s/Special Education Teachers/Regular Ed Teachers, Transition Specialists, Special Ed IPG and Curriculum Development
