Texas AFT Retirees help with ACE program
More than 100 retirees, teachers and school personnel around the state have tried over the past few months to educate members of Congress about how to fix NCLB as part of Texas AFT’s Activists for Congressional Education (ACE) program.

By providing a shared education agenda, research, news and information, Texas AFT empowers members to discuss educational priorities with their elected leaders and make change. These ACE members then join a chorus of their colleagues in other states to discuss education priorities with policy-makers in order to bring the Movement for Change to Congress.

“Texas AFT always has kept it pretty easy to keep up with what’s coming down the pike thanks to the Hotline and Texas Teacher,” Valdez said. “But you don’t have to be a political scholar to be an effective ACE member – that’s the beauty of the program. As professionals, parents and grandparents, we can add a richness and depth to the education conversations taking place in Washington that’s been lacking.”

If you’re interested in joining an ACE team, please contact Jennifer Rodriguez at jrodriguez@texasaft.org or call her at 800-222-3827.
